Perceptions of prospective Turkish Teachers regarding Literature Circles

The fact that the prospective Turkish teachers’ having a command of different methods and techniques as being Turkish teachers of the future is important in terms of its positive effects on the comprehension and expression skills of the middle school students. This study used the case study design and the qualitative approach. The aim of the research was to test the effectiveness of literature circle method and contribute to the field in theoretical and practical context. Fourty-six prospective Turkish teachers were conveniently sampled from the state university in Istanbul, to participate in the study. During six weeks, the opinions of prospective Turkish teachers who applied literature circle method were collected through unstructured interview forms. The data collected were subjected to a content analysis. It was concluded that prospective Turkish teachers found the method of literature circle favorible, in terms of cooperation, solidarity, gaining different perspectives, revealing hidden talents, developing self-confidence, aesthetic pleasure, enriching vocabulary and catching the details.

Expressing Ideas: AI-Integrated Paraphrasing to Students’ Writing Skills

The main thrust of the study was to explore the third-year English student’s sentiments on the application of the artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated paraphrasing tools. Specifically, it aimed to investigate the benefits and drawbacks brought by AI paraphrasing tools towards the writing skills of the students. The investigation utilized a semi-structured interviews with an open-ended questionnaire using an audio-video recorder. The data gathered were interpreted using the Thematic Analysis of Braun and Clarke. The study was carried out at one of the campuses of a state university located at Candijay, Bohol, Philippines. Using the Purposive sampling technique, twelve (12) respondents provided information on the research endeavor. The findings revealed that students had a positive opinion of AI-integrated paraphrase tools: they saw them as helpful resources that significantly improve their academic writing process; it includes plagiarism reduction, efficiency, and timesaving, and aids in rephrasing text. The findings also revealed the risks and issues of using AI-integrated paraphrasing tools, such as Prone to plagiarism, automated suggestions dependency, and loss of original meaning and context. With that, the students showed how they deal with those risks and issues, including as responsible users and thorough editing and reviewing. In accordance with the study, students are encouraged not to rely excessively on AI-integrated paraphrase tools, even though they can improve their writing abilities. This research emphasizes that students play a pivotal role in ensuring the appropriateness of texts generated by AI-integrated paraphrasing tools by mastering the art of proper paraphrasing.

Self-Organization and Self-Efficacy as Predictors of Cheating Attitudes in Online Exams: A Self-Regulated Learning Perspective

This study aimed to examine the impact of self-organization and self-efficacy in predicting attitudes toward cheating in online exams among undergraduate students. Drawing on the self-regulated learning framework, a cross-sectional survey design was employed to collect data from 153 students at a Saudi university using three validated scales. The findings revealed that self-organization and self-efficacy were significant negative predictors of attitudes toward cheating, with higher levels of these attributes associated with less favorable attitudes toward cheating. Furthermore, moderation analysis showed that self-efficacy significantly moderated the relationship between self-organization and cheating attitudes, suggesting a complex interplay between the two constructs. The findings highlight the importance of fostering self-regulated learning skills to enhance academic integrity in online assessment contexts.
